Official hand-over of European Union funded projects in Ampara
The European Union will officially hand-over to the Government and people of Sri Lanka two projects at a total cost of LKR 6.3 billion in the Ampara District on 6th July 2010.
The 400 km rural and provincial access roads and environment remediation programme which includes a solid waste management facility will be inaugurated by HE Mr. Bernard Savage, Ambassador/ Head of Delegation to the EU in Sri Lanka and Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Hon. Sivanesathurai Chanrdakanthan in the presence of senior Government Officials and Heads of Local Authorities in Ampara on Tuesday.
These two projects carried out under the Europe Union's post-tsunami recovery Community Access (CAP, LKR 4.6 billion) and Environment Remediation programmes (ERP, LKR 1.7 billion) were implemented through the United Nations Office for Project Services – UNOPS.
These new infrastructures are part of the European Union's overall post-tsunami aid package to Sri Lanka, which is approximately LKR 24.2 billion (EURO 147 million. The EU - Tsunami aid programme covered not only affected districts in the South and East, but also provided support to the affected districts in the North.
